Just had a phone call with Jeff Payne who is my Dad’s co-worker’s husband who is heavily linked to the entertainment industry. Our phone call was…definitely a learning experience for me. I felt ill-prepared for the phone call even though it’s not like I was interviewing for a job or anything. I felt like I should have been more prepared to talk to him about everything. He definitely gave me a lot of tips on what I could improve upon and got me questioning some things, like why my major is Journalism. I talked a lot about wanting to work in the entertainment industry and doing entertainment reporting, but I guess jobs like that don’t usually look toward people who are Journalism majors, but rather Broadcast Comm majors. He told me I should reconsider once I go to a four-year college. I am definitely thinking about that now. He also told me it’s a good idea to have a background in production as well, usually people don’t think to have those backgrounds. He said that having a background production is extremely helpful in just simply getting jobs in the industry. A lot of TV stations are always looking for editors, etc. for production and that could be an in to getting an on-screen job. I definitely never thought about that, but I definitely am now. He gave me a lot of information and I am definitely going to be working as much as I can into creating my description of what I want to do in the future into a very concise description. It was a lot of information and I feel kind of more confused now, but definitely have a lot of thinking and improving to do.
